CSUS Ernest E. Tschannen Science Complex

Youngdahl Consulting Group, Inc. has performed a full range of services for the new state-of-the-art Type 1B Science Building at CSUS.

This five-story 96,000 square foot structure includes an observatory and a 1,200 square foot planetarium, providing CSUS and the community at large with a new focal point for modern scientific research, education and exploration.

We initially performed a Geotechnical Engineering Study for the project.  Due to loose surficial deposits, recommendations were provided for deepened foundation systems. In addition to the geotechnical work, we also provided consultation regarding the feasibility of on-site stormwater disposal. Ultimately this Low Impact Development (LID) standard was determined to be not feasible due to shallow groundwater conditions.

Our engineering services were followed by observation of the selected foundation remediation system, rammed aggregate piers, and Construction Observation and Testing services throughout earthwork operations.  Additionally, Youngdahl provided all Special Inspections during construction.  This involved concrete, masonry, structural steel, fireproofing and firestopping. Youngdahl provided continuous shop inspection for the fabrication of structural steel and truss systems by our certified AWS inspectors. Following the shop inspection of the structural steel elements, Youngdahl provided inspection for the erection, connecting and detailing of the five-story steel-frame structure.
