The Strand Apartments

Youngdahl Consulting Group, Inc. has performed a full range of services for a new 20-acre residential apartment complex The Strand located in West Sacramento, CA.

This complex includes 37 two and three-story buildings, featuring a range of residential options from studios to multi-bedroom units up to 1,200 square feet. Amenities include two pools, a fitness center, a playground, and a clubhouse. The site was initially an underdeveloped parcel of land used as a golf course and driving range, with several structures on site that were demolished prior to 2005, sand traps and greens located on site were also regraded after the property was acquired in 2017 by MBK Rental Living.

Our staff initially performed a Geotechnical Engineering and Infiltration Study for the project in 2017.  Due to loose surficial deposits and high groundwater tables from the Sacramento River, recommendations were provided for ground modification techniques to densify soils in order to mitigate liquefaction and settlement risks, as well as to support post-tension slab on grade foundations. A GES Update was prepared in 2019, which included a plan review of other designs, and new recommendations were made for the construction of conventional shallow and pole foundations.

Our engineering services were followed by Construction Observation and Testing services throughout earthwork operations, including placement of fills and geogrids for foundation stabilization. In addition to the Geotechnical work, we also provided stormwater consulting services to DesCor Builders during construction, which included site monitoring and sampling to ensure compliance with the Regional Water Quality Control Board and proper implementation of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.
